My Scottish sounding surname comes from my husband. I was born in Germany and studied medicine in the Charité in Berlin, one of Europes largest and most famous university clinics from 1988 to 1994. (http://www.charite.de/en/charite/) I have lived in Spain with my husband Ian since 2003 and our son Sean was born here one year later.
After graduation from medical school I decided to specialize in Internal Medicine which meant a further 6 years of post-graduate training in different fields; Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Nephrology, Pulmonology, Haematology, Rheumatology, Endocrinology, and Onkology. Hence all areas of Medicine which have to do with internal organs such as the stomach, lungs, heart and kidneys as well as blood related illnesses, but at the same time seeing the patient as “whole people” and not mere organ systems.
This area of specialization, although very common in Germany, the United States, Australia and New Zealand, is not found in the UK.
The internet encyclopaedia Wikipedia defines it as "The Doctors Doctor" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internal_medicine) and very many people see their Internist as their primary medical practitioner.
It is also quite common for other GP´s to refer their patients to me if they require further diagnosis - therefore the term Doctors Doctor. I in turn work closely with sub specialists and specialist clinics to ensure your health is always in good hands.
During my post-graduate training I also attained the qualification as an Emergency Doctor (sometimes called Paramedic) and for some years traveled regularly with a MICU (Mobile Intensive Care Unit) on emergency calls. This also meant being the doctor on call for the hospital first-aid post dealing with any casualties being admitted whilst on duty.
Because I am working here in Spain as a family doctor and specialist this means you can come to me with any medical problem or for regular check-ups or vaccinations. The Costa Blanca offers some of Spains best dive sites. For divers and would be divers who need a qualified check up to see if it is safe for them to dive, I am an experienced diver and certified Dive Medical Officer.
